Superfinish

Whether it's about reducing friction losses or hygiene – the surface quality of components is more important than ever. As a result, superfinishing technologies are also becoming increasingly important. Nagel has responded to this trend by expanding its capacities for process development and contract machining in the Superfinishing business unit.

Furthermore, the machinery has recently been adapted and modernized to meet the increasing requirements. Contract machining with an output of up to thousands of parts per week is not uncommon.

Hardening and burnishing

Advice, flexibility, quality awareness and adherence to deadlines are our top priorities – values that are particularly appreciated by our long-standing regular customers. The many years of experience of our master craftsmen and specialists is complemented by further training in surface treatment and heat treatment. This means that we are always available to our customers as (technology) consultants and problem solvers.

Due to the demands of manufacturing our own products, we have specialized in individual and small series production. However, with our heat treatment line, we are also able to treat larger quantities. Charging can be designed flexibly so that both larger and smaller, intricate workpieces can be treated. It is often the small workpieces that have to withstand particular stresses.
We coordinate deadlines with our customers in an uncomplicated and direct manner so that we can react flexibly and quickly to the desired requirements.

  • Drum size for small parts up to Ø450/500 mm in length – perfect for delicate precision parts
  • Basket size up to 1,800 × 400 × 500 mm – ideal for larger workpieces

For workpieces that need to be harder, tougher and more flexible than others:

  • Batch size up to Ø700 mm / 1,000 mm length – for maximum flexibility
  • Batch weight up to 500 kg – also for large, heavy components
  • Quenching in a warm salt bath – for uniform quenching of the workpieces, resulting in better dimensional accuracy with significantly less distortion.
  • Case hardening (CHD/EHT) 0.1 mm to 1.5 mm – for high surface hardness, wear-resistant surface layer and a tough core to increase fatigue strength and flexural fatigue strength.
  • Carbonitriding (CHD/EHT) up to 0.5 mm – for particularly resistant surface layers due to the enrichment of nitrogen. Lower distortion due to lower temperatures than with case hardening. Particularly suitable for low-alloy materials.
  • Carburizing (CD/At) up to 1.5 mm – recommended for components with a high case-hardening depth and the highest demands.
  • Hardening and tempering up to 960 °C – for an optimum combination of hardness and toughness
  • Stress-relief annealing up to 650 °C – for stable, low-stress workpieces
  • Tempering up to 650 °C – for perfect coordination of hardness and elasticity

With sandblasting, straightening and vibratory grinding, we ensure that your parts are ready for installation, resilient and precise. Our quality assurance goes into depth:

Brake disk machining

For hard coating and subsequent double-sided grinding on a contract basis, we work strictly according to the customer's specifications. Intermediate checks, such as monitoring the applied coating thicknesses, the amount of powder applied and shape and position tolerances, ensure that everything runs according to specification during the process chain.

Together with the final inspection results of the components, a complete documentation of each individual brake disk can be agreed.
